Civilization Revolution 2 is exclusive to iOS and Android and even though the first was launched on consoles, this one’s been given a miss on those platforms. The gameplay is turn based multiplayer with players handed the task of building an empire and taking over other empires by advancing their own in technology and society. Civilization Revolution 2 combines the core tactical elements of the series with intuitive controls and a friendly user interface. It also features 16 historical leaders from the first game, including Abraham Lincoln, Gandhi and Napoleon, alongside new leaders like Churchill and Kennedy.

Civilization Revolution 2 costs $14.99 on the Play Store. Although that’s a little on the higher side, we’re sure long time series fans won’t mind the price.

Dungeons & Dragons Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition lands on the Apple App Store

Another old time classic has made its way to the iOS App Store, this time the well known RPG Dungeons & Dragons: Icewind Dale. The game has been released in its “Enhanced Edition” and is based on the original Icewind Dale game released for PC in 2000 set in game set in Wizards of The Coast’s legendary Forgotten Realms from the universe of Dungeons and Dragons.

Features:

– Swords and Sorcery: Discover dozens of new spells and items, including new magic armor and weapons.

– Blackguards and Wizard Slayers: Select from almost 40 new kits and classes to create the perfect adventuring party.

– A New Look: Experience the Enhanced Edition’s all new interface, including the new Quickloot bar.

– Bring A Friend: Join your fellow adventurers in cooperative, cross-platform multiplayer games.

– See The Unseen: Explore quest content cut from the original game, now finished and restored.

– More to Experience: Enjoy the countless bug fixes and improvements that await you in Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition!

Icewind Dale was originally announced for iOS back in September last year. The game was supposed to be launched last week, but was postponed due to objection raised by Apple for some objectionable content in the cutscenes, which have subsequently been removed by the developers. The game is developed by Overhaul Games, the company that brought Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II to iOS.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition costs $9.99 on the App Store and can be picked at the link below.

Monument Valley gets getting Forgotten Shores DLC on November 13 to make up for the extremely short gameplay

While we can all agree that Monument Valley is an excellent game, it’s not hard to see that it’s terribly short too. And for a game that costs $3.99 that isn’t obviously a good thing. However, the developers have always stressed that for them quality will always outgun quantity. Still that’s not something everybody would agree with and to appease such customers, developer Ustwo has announced Forgotten Shores, a new DLC for the game that adds new eight levels to the game.

Forgotten Shores will hit iOS on November 13th and will be available as an in-app purchase. According to the developers, they built several maps for the expansion but decided to keep only a few so as to not compromise on the quality. The new levels will explore different architectural styles and include landscapes. The DLC will come with a price tag of $1.99 and will be released on Android shortly after it’s been launched on iOS.

HERE Maps adds support for Android 5.0 Lollipop

nokia here maps android

Recently, Nokia released HERE Maps for Android in beta. Now, the app has been updated with all round improvements and support for Android 5.0 Lollipop. Of course, there aren’t many devices with the latest version of Android right now, but that should easily change in the future. The update also fixes the issue where downloaded voice files for turn-by-turn navigation in other languages were getting deleted upon using cache cleaner. Then, there are several under the hood changes and bug fixes that are a part of the update.

According to Nokia’s blog, the app has seen a warm response with over 1 million downloads with a high rating in the Galaxy App Store. Nokia plans to release the update on the same in the coming days, but you can always visit their blog and download the apk on your phone manually now. The app is expected to hit the Play Store in the coming weeks.

Google Drive updated on iOS with Touch ID support

google drive ios

Google Drive has picked a new update on iOS taking it to version 3.3.0. The biggest change that the new version brings is support for unlocking using Touch ID sensor found on the iPhone 5s and this year’s iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3. You will now be able to access the content stored in your cloud storage using a swipe of a finger instead of having to deal with passwords.

That’s not all though, since the update also adds the option to save videos from the drive directly to your drive. You will also be able to open from and save to Drive in other apps as well. Grab the latest update from the link below.

HTC launches its Weather app in the Play Store

htc weather app

In line with what HTC has been doing in the recent past, the company released another of its app on the Play Store, this time it’s the HTC Weather app. HTC has been publishing apps that earlier used to be a part of its software package on its phones to the Play Store, so that it can provide more timely updates for these apps (without having to wait until the next major update for the phone) and also update them for devices that don’t get updated to the latest version of Android.

As one would expect, HTC Weather delivers weather information and forecasts, as well as details like temperature, humidity, real-feel temperature, wind speed, visibility and sunrise and sunset times.

Non HTC users looking to grab the app are in for a disappointment since HTC Weather is exclusive to HTC devices. That shouldn’t let you down though since there’s a plethora of similar apps available in the Play Store already.

Microsoft brings new Office for iPhone, iPad and Office for Android tablets preview

office iphone

Microsoft has finally done what it should have done long back. It’s gotten rid of the Office app for iPhone and instead, replaced it with three standalone apps for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, much like that on iPad. The apps are free to download and won’t even require an Office 365 subscription to create new files from scratch, make edits to existing files or sync them across devices. Starting today, you’ll be able to make edits to your files on the iPhone and iPad and upload it on Dropbox thanks to the recent integration with the app.

The new apps on iPhone are based on same set of features as the iPad apps, although being optimized for smaller screens, they look a little different from their iPad counterparts. The new apps for iPad and iPhone are available in 29 languages and 136 countries.

That’s not all though, since the company is also rolling out Office for Android with Office for Android tablet preview. The company is accepting sign ups for the new program and expects the general availability to begin in in early 2015.

Microsoft has also promised that it will be bringing touch optimized version of Office to Windows with Windows 10 next year. All these services will be free for home users, although business users will still have to pay for the Office 365 subscription. Users who paid for the subscription only to use Office on iPad, will be refunded by Microsoft (although the exact method of refund hasn’t been specified).

Opera Mini 9 for iOS claims to make video buffering a thing of the past

opera mini ios

When it comes to data saving and compression on the internet, Opera Mini still stands tall as the king. However, with increasing 3G and 4G penetration, the value of the service has taken a hit in the recent years. That doesn’t mean Opera isn’t doing anything to stay relevant in the market though. The company has just rolled out a new version of its Opera Mini browser on iOS.

Opera Mini 9 tries to make video buffering a thing of the past by introducing a new feature called video boost. Video boost brings down buffering time for viewers by making the data footprint of the video smaller. The technology in use here is Rocket Optimizer engine from Opera’s Skyfire division, which was acquired by Opera last year.

Opera sees huge opportunity in this field, since according to the company, mobile video represented 53% of the world’s mobile-data traffic at the end of last year and is expected to account for 69% of mobile-data traffic by 2018. The report goes on to say that even with blazing 4G networks, 40 percent users in the US faced stalling while playing videos.

The update also adds support for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, as well as extra options for editing Speed Dial website shortcuts. Grab the update from the store link below.

Runkeeper gets Google Fit integration in the latest update

runkeeper android

Google’s recently announced fitness package Google Fit is starting to see integration with third party tools. Runkeeper has recently been updated in the Play Store and the app now supports Google Fit integration. This means that the data from Runkeeper will get passed on to Google Fit where you can monitor it along with other fitness data that you might have. The connection is optional and you can disable it should you you choose to do so. You can toggle the link through the app’s settings menu.

Google Fit being of course Google’s answer to Apple Health. The app collects data from various third party apps like Strava, Withings, Runtastic, Runkeeper, and Noom Coach (and others using the Fit API) and makes it all available in one place. All that data is synced across devices and the app can even provide performance based recommendations based on your data. Grab the apps from the Play Store at the links below.

WhatsApp can now inform you if your messages have been read or not

0

whatsapp

What made WhatsApp so popular initially was its double tick feature that informed the sender that the message has reached the recipient’s phone (although he might or might not have read it). Now, WhatsApp has quietly added another nifty feature to its app that can even tell whether the recipient has read your message or not.

The trick is pretty simple. As soon as the recipient reads your message, the double grey check marks next to the message turn blue. It even works in group chats, where the single check mark turns blue when everybody in the group has read the message. Long pressing a message reveals the Message info which details when the message was delivered and when it was read.

The new feature doesn’t require an update and is already available on all platforms. Although, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that it won’t go well with all users who still wish to keep a little privacy.
