Google updates its search and keyboard app on Android

0

google keyboard

Google has pushed an update for its search and keyboard apps on Android. The common change among both the apps is of course the infusion of Material Design, including new animations and colors.

Moving past the cosmetic changes, Google Search app gets a couple of new features. Search app can now dig into your Gmail account and unearth earlier plans that you might have forgotten about. These will then be reminded to you using intuitive new Google Now cards. you will also be able to use the ‘OK Google’ commands within apps to search for content. Apps that are presently supported include Tumblr, YouTube, TripAdvisor, and TuneIn. That’s now all, since users will also be able to use the “OK Google” command when the screen is off and their device is unplugged on Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Galaxy Note 4. Oh, you will now be able to flip a coin (virtual) by simply saying, “OK Google, flip a coin.”

As for the keyboard app, most of the changes are around its looks. It sports two themes, Material Light or Material Dark. You can go to the keyboard settings and pick either one of them.

Google launches Messenger app in the Play Store

messenger

While there are already a dozen or messaging apps on the Play Store, Google believes that there’s room for more. The company has launched Messenger app in the Play Store. Messenger is the default messaging app on Android Lollipop (and is also available for other versions) and allows you to send and receive SMS and MMS from any other phone. We’re still confused how that makes it different from the Hangouts app that pretty much does the same, but it’s not being offered as a replacement it seems and the former champ is still available.

Features:

• Faster sharing: Select or take pictures and videos directly from the app and share easily. You can even send audio messages to your contacts.
• Easy search: Search through contacts and conversation threads to find exactly what you are looking for.
• Purposeful design: New, fluid, material design that is intuitive and delightful.
• More control: Ability to block SMS senders. No interruptions when you don’t want them!
• More features: audio messages, emoji support, colored text threads, message archiving and more.

Messenger has been crafted in Material Design of course and works on devices with Android 4.1 and above. It also allows your to send audio messages. It also allows you to capture pictures and videos directly from the app and send them to your friends and family.

Messenger is free to download and can be picked from the Play Store here.

netflix ios

Netflix has pushed an update for its iOS app on the App Store taking it to version 7.0. The biggest change that the new version brings is streaming shows in 1080p for the iPhone 6 Plus. That’s obviously due to the fact that the new iPhone actually has a 1080p display so it makes sense to display the higher quality content. All your favorite shows including Netflix originals Orange is the New Black and House of Cards will be streaming in 1080p.

Besides this, the update also optimizes the app for the larger screens on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. That means more titles on the screen and bigger imagery. The update also brings improved performance and support for iOS 8.

Telltale games have just made their Walking Dead: Season 2 game available on the App Store free of cost. That means users can download the game for free and start playing the first episode in the game. Walking Dead: Season 2 is the sequel to last year’s critically acclaimed Walking Dead: Season 1. The series is based on Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead comic book series. Telltale has already announced Walking Dead: Season 3, which is the next installment in the game.

Each season consists of 5 episodes. The game’s first episode has been free to play on other platforms, but this wasn’t the case on iOS. However, now users can download Season 2 for free and finish episode 1. The other episodes can be purchased via an in-app purchase for $4.99 per episode. All four episodes can also be purchased for $14.99.

That’s not all though, since Telltale also teased about the upcoming game based on “Game of Thrones” through its Twitter channel. The game will be released with its first episode called “Iron from Ice” very soon. In all, there will be six chapters in the game. Can’t say we’re not excited.
