EA announced Need for Speed: No Limits back in November last year along with the first trailer of the game below, featuring professional rally driver Ken Block. Well, the studio has released the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming game that is set to hit mobiles and tablets this year.

The trailer shows 30 seconds of gameplay and as promised by Electronic Arts, the gameplay seems to have fast driving, tons of customization and sharp visuals. The game is being developed by Australian studio Firemonkeys, the studio behind Real Racing 3. The game will be released on Android and iOS for mobiles and tablets. There’s no word on a release date. The title will be free to play with optional purchases.

EA currently has  Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and the Need for Speed Rivals companion app Need for Speed Network listed in the App Store.

Check out the trailer below:

Pirated installs of Monument Valley account for 95% of all installs on Android

monument valley

Monument Valley has been subject to heaps of praises time and again. It was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and better games of 2014. The only downside to it is the rather large price tag of $3.99, especially since it’s not a very long game.

Monument Valley has been available on Android and iOS for a while now and now the developers behind it have made some interesting revelations. According to them, 95% of installs of Monument Valley on Android are free and that doesn’t include numbers from the Amazon Appstore. So, only 5% of the installs have actually been paid for. While a small percent of those 95% downloads are legitimate, a chunk of it is pirated. And you’ll have to thank Android’s sideloading ability for that, where users can get the APK from an online website and have it installed on their phone or tablet for free.

On iOS, the number fares much better, with 40% of the downloads being paid for. This makes it pretty clearly why iOS is the number one choice for developers. Also, given the rampant piracy, it makes sense for the developers to adopt freemium model with in-app purchases instead, which is hard to cheat for users. DO you think such a trend on Android can deter developers from making apps for the platforms? Let us know below.

Lumia Moments app lands in the Windows Phone Store

lumia moments

Microsoft has released the Lumia Moments app in the Windows Phone Store. The app comes with the Lumia Denim update and allows users to pick images/frames out of a video and save them as individual photos. Although the app was supposed to be released with the Denim update, it’s availability in the store means it can be readily downloaded and put to good use without having to wait for the OTA update. However, the app would probably work on the Lumia 830, Lumia 930, Lumia Icon and Lumia 1520 (please let us know if it’s otherwise).

With Lumia Moments you can extract great action shots from your videos or 4K Moment shots on your Lumia (or full HD shots on the Lumia 830).

Grab it for free from the Windows Phone Store below.

VLC lands on Windows Phone Store for everybody

vlc windows phone

Your phone isn’t really smart if it’s not got a decent music or video player in it. And for many, the definition of a good media player is VLC. What started as a Kickstart project long back, is finally now complete and VLC is now available on Windows Phone.

The app has been available as private beta in the Windows Phone Store for a while now, but today it is available to download for everybody. Like its brethren on other platforms, VLC supports a wide variety of media formats including MKV and Ogg, that are not supported by the default video player. It can pick any video on your phone, including the ones on your phone’s SD card.

VLC works well on devices with just 512MB RAM, and given the project was backed heavily by the community on KickStarter, the app comes as a free download (similar to other platforms). Grab it from the link below.

HERE Maps crosses one million downloads in the Play Store

nokia here maps android

Nokia’s mapping solution HERE Maps made its foray on the Play Store close to two months back and it seems like the app is off to a good start. According to its Play Store page, the app has already crossed a million downloads. The number lies in between 1 million and 5 million actually but its unlikely to be on the upper side since it breached the milestone only recently.

Before hitting the Play Store, HERE Maps was available on Samsung’s own app store and is said to have garnered a million downloads over there as well. The app is still in beta so it’s certainly more impressive. Nokia decided to expand its services to more shores, once it sold its hardware division business to Microsoft last year. The company is also working on an iOS version of HERE Maps.

HERE Maps offers offline turn-by-turn navigation, something that Google Maps lack. Although the number is no small feat, competitor Google Maps has already crossed a billion downloads in the Play Store and was the second app in the Store to reach that milestone. in fact, it reached there back in June, so we reckon the number would be much higher now. By that comparison, Nokia still has a long way to go.

Strings allows you to recall those embarrassing texts

strings ios

More often than not, we’ve all found ourselves in some situation or the other where we realize that this world could be a much better place only if we could somehow undo that sent message. Thankfully, you won’t have to spend sleepless nights wondering what if you had not sent that message, since there’s a new app that can recall those embarrassing messages.

There’s a new app in town called Strings and it helps you to avoid situations mentioned above. The app allows you to share photos, texts and videos with your friends, just like you would on WhatsApp, BBM or Snapchat. However, if the recipient wants to store that information on his phone, they’ll need your permission first. Also, similar to Snapchat, if someone tries to take a screenshot instead, you’ll be notified and they’ll be warned. Last but not the least, you’ll also have access to recipient’s device in the sense that if you’ve actually sent a wrong message or photo, you’ll be able to delete it from the receiver’s phone before they can see it.

Strings is free to download and is available on iOS. No word on Android or Windows Phone version. Grab it from the link below.

hunger games panem run

You will now be able to explore Panem on Windows Phone as Hunger Games: Panem Run has been released on the Windows Phone Store. The game was released on Android and iOS alongside the official movie release on November 23rd and has been made by Indian developer Zapak Mobile Games.

•EXPLORE the Districts of Panem
•RUN ENDLESSLY as a member of your current District
•DODGE, JUMP AND SMASH through obstacles

Panem Run is an endless runner (the most common platform for official movie games) that takes you through the districts of Panem. You can run as a member of the district you’re in. You can also shoot targets with arrows, collect sparks and do the things usually associated with endless runners in the game. Currently, the game allows you to explore 12 districts, with more to be added in the future updates.

While we wish the game used something more refreshing, Panem Run isn’t a bad game. Get it for free from the link below.

Microsoft and Google have more apps in the App Store than Apple

0

venturebeat report

It’s the end of the year and also time to look at some interesting developments that occurred in 2014. VentureBeat has come out with an interesting finding, taking a look at the number of apps each Google, Apple and Microsoft have in the three app stores.

As it turns out, Google has the highest number of apps on the Play Store (which is expected) followed by Microsoft with almost half as many apps. However, when it comes to Apple App Store, Microsoft takes the crown, having published 74 apps in the store, more than what Google and Apple have to offer. In fact, Microsoft has more than double the apps on the App Store compared to Apple’s apps, which explains why Microsoft is a software first company.

On the Windows Phone Store, Microsoft is the sole torch bearer with 96 apps, the highest any of the three have on any platform. Google has just one app (Google Search) on the Windows Phone Store and it’s unlikely that’ll change in 2016. As for Apple, they’re content pushing apps exclusively for the App Store.

Microsoft working on a new browser for Windows 10 codenamed Spartan

spartan browser

Internet Explorer is often at the butt of jokes no matter how hard Microsoft tries to improve it and Google won’t simply release Chrome for Windows 8 or Windows Phone. This sad state of affairs has left Microsoft with no other choice but to make a new browser from dust for the upcoming Windows 10. No we’re no talking about a new version of Internet Explorer, but rather a new browser built from ground up.

Codenamed Spartan (another codename from the Halo universe), Microsoft plans to release the browser alongside the next version of Internet Explorer on Windows 10. Instead of Webkit, Spartan will use Microsoft’s Chakra JavaScript engine and Microsoft’s Trident rendering engine. The browser will also reportedly look and feel like Chrome and Firefox and will allow extensions. The light weight browser will be released for both mobile and desktop and Internet Explorer 11 will be shipped for backward compatibility purpose.

Microsoft is expected to unveil Windows 10 at an event on January 21st, where it could unveil Spartan (or whatever the company decides to call the final version of the browser).
