Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past hits iOS

uncanny xmen days of the past

The newly launched Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past is the offiecial tie-in game for the movie of the same name that was released yesterday. In fact, the game is based on the original comic book story first presented in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 in 1981. The game makes players control characters like Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Cyclops or Scarlet Witch in what is definitely a game inspired by the comics instead of the 3D graphic style seen in recent tie-in games like the Amazing Spiderman 2.

The game is based in two different timelines and as the protagonist, your job is to save the world. X-Men: Days of Future Past offers a decent gameplay of 5 hours that spans over 23 different levels. There are plenty of surprises to unlock within the game along with hidden easter eggs including concept art, character bios and more. Fortunately, the $3.99 covers all the content with no further in-app purchases required.

Developed by Glitchsoft, the game is available for iPhone 4 or higher, or iPad 2 or higher. An Android version is also in the works and should be out soon.

Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past can be picked from the App Store here. You can check out the trailer for the game below.

Gmail and Snapchat pick updates on Android

snapchat and gmail updated

Snapchat and Gmail have picked recent updates on Android dated 22nd May. Starting with Snapchat, there’s no changelog reported and the what’s new section being shown is still from the previous update. We’re assuming the update brings general bug fixes and such. Although, users are still reporting about missing features like the ability to clear your feed.

As for Gmail, the changelog still shows the changes that were introduced in the previous version of the app. We still don’t know if any new features have been added or not, so we’ll safely assume performance enhancements and bug fixes.

Find the apps in the Play Store at the links below.

Xbox Music, Xbox Video and OneNote pick updates on Windows Phone

xbox video and music updated

The recent Microsoft apps to have picked update on Windows Phone include Xbox Music, Xbox Video and Onedrive. Xbox Music and Xbox Video updates come as a part of the regular biweekly update cycle, while the OneDrive update is a welcome addition. Lets have a look at what the updates bring in terms of features.

Xbox Music

The biggest gripe with the new Xbox Music app for Windows Phone 8.1 was that it took away many of the features that were already available. One such feature was the ability to change track by swiping the screen. That’s back, although this time songs are changed by swiping up and down on the screen instead of left and right. Here’s the full changelog for version 2.5.3929.0:

  • Swipe the album art on the Now Playing screen to change tracks.
  • UI layout changes to make more room for content.
  • Minor bug fixes.

Along with Xbox Music, the Xbox Video has also been patched to version 2.5.3929.0. Listening to consumer feedback in Store reviews, Microsoft has fixed one important bug in the app that made it crash after it was launched immediately after an upgrade from Windows Phone 8.0. Here’s the changelog:

  • Multiple stability and localization fixes:
  • Fixed an issue that many users mentioned in store reviews where the app would stop immediately after it was launched after an upgrade from Windows Phone 8.0. This issue has been has been difficult for us to reproduce, so we added additional hooks to help us understand why this problem occurs.
  • Better error notifications when a rental has expired.
  • Fixed a problem with playing downloaded movies while offline.
  • Fixed several localization issues.
  • Fixed a problem where Xbox Video’s collections showed blank content after an upgrade or relaunch.

FIFA 14 adds World Cup content in the latest update

fifa 14

The FIFA 2014 World Cup is one of the most awaited event for this year and smartphones are joining the craze too. EA Sports has added World Cup related content to its FIFA 14 app on Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows with the latest updates.

The update adds official national teams participating in the event along with their jerseys. It also introduces Adidas Brazuca, which is the official soccer ball of the tournament. Users will be able to participate in Matches of the Week with the new teams that have been picked from the most interesting qualifiers in the last two years. Post June 12 when the actual tournament begins, new games will be added to Match of the Week as the tournament progresses.

It seems like an intelligent move on EA’s part to add content to the existing game, instead of releasing a standalone app, since it already has such a huge user base. You can find FIFA 14 for the four platforms at the source links below.

Adobe announces touch optimized Photoshop CC for Surface Pro 3

photoshop

With Microsoft’s ‘big’ announcement of Surface Pro 3, Adobe also took the stage to give us a sneak peek of Photoshop CC for Windows 8.1 that is optimized for touch. Previously, Photoshop CC supported touch, but that remained limited to pressure sensitive pen inputs.

The new version will be optimized to work with fingers and will support features like pinch to zoom and rotation of images with simple rotation gestures. It will also come with bigger UI icons (200 percent larger) to record input from finger more accurately. The new Photoshop will also be able to support high resolution displays, like that of the Surface Pro 3. It will be a fully packed version with all the features, unlike the Photoshop Touch or Photoshop Express.

Adobe hasn’t given a launch date for the new Photoshop, expect for a promise of bringing it to the platform soon. It is also not known if the new software will work with other devices (our guess is that it would). What’s known is that Adobe and Microsoft will be collaborating even more in the future to bring out such products to our delight.

Facebook’s mobile app will soon recognize the song, movie or TV show in the background

With apps like Shazam, it has become a walk in the park to identify that nice melody playing in the background, without feeling embarrassed by asking someone the same. now, Facebook has decided to take it to a whole new level. Soon, Facebook’s mobile app will be able to recognize the song you’re listening to, or the movie or TV series that you’re watching, just by hearing what’s being said.

With that data, Facebook will make it easier for people to post status with activities (like ‘drinking coffee at’ or ‘playing football’ that you see your friends post). To use the service, you just need to turn it on while posting a status and the phone’s microphone and the app will do the rest of the magic. What this does is save user some time by doing away with the typing of whatever it is that you’re listening or watching.

If the feature is turned on, an audio icon moving on the screen will try to identify what’s playing in the background. If i finds a match, you can choose to add that song, TV show or movie. The feature can also be turned off at any time.

facebook app update

That’s not all though. If you’re listening to a song, the new feature will let your friends hear a 30 seconds preview of it. If you’re watching a TV show, the app will also be able to post the exact season and episode.

The feature will be added to Android and iOS apps in the upcoming weeks. Unfortunately, there’s no update n whether the Windows Phone version of the app will receive the feature or not (given that it’s managed by Microsoft).

Apple updates iWork on iCloud, adds interactive charts and improves collaboration ability

iwork on icloud update

iWork for iCloud is a free tool that lets you access Pages,Keynote, and Numbers over the web. Apple has given a major update to the suite today, adding new features, as well as updating existing ones. The app now allows up to 100 people to collaborate on a single document in real time. The previous limit was 50.

Also, you can now edit documents of up to 1GB in size and add images up to 10MB in size in these documents. You can also format charts on all three apps that can be 2D or interactive. Other changes include inserting and editing in line tables in Pages, showing and hiding slide numbers in Keynote, alternating row colors in tables in Numbers, chart formatting and new color options. You can also export Pages documents to ePub and Numbers documents to CSV.

To access iWork, just visit iCloud website with a valid Apple ID from any browser, or through iWork app on Mac OS X and iOS. Perhaps with the update, Apple is looking to lure users from Google Docs and Microsoft Office, with the latter becoming available on iPads only recently.

Gameloft launches Game Hub on Windows Phone

gameloft game hub

While many developers forget that Windows Phone even exists when releasing new apps, luckily for gamers, Gameloft doesn’t treat the community with such ignorance. The popular developer that has given the platform a lot of  triple A titles has launched a new app on the Windows Phone Store called the Game Hub. As the name suggests, the Game Hub is your one stop shop for all the Gameloft titles in the Store.

The app is a hefty 44MB to download and that’s because it comes with 5 exclusive free titles that aren’t otherwise available on the Windows Phone Store. these include:

  • Danger Dash
  • Green Farm 3
  • Littleest Pet Shop
  • Real Football 2014
  • Wonder Zoo

It seems like Microsoft doesn’t have a problem with this move, since Game Hub comes pre loaded on the Lumia 630. Besides offering these titles, you can find all of Gameloft’s titles ever released on the platform in the Hub. Although, clicking on any game takes you to the location of that app in the Windows Phone Store (probably why Microsoft doesn’t isn’t complaining). Still, it’s a great way to keep track of new games from one of the best developers for the platform. It’s free to download and can be picked from the Store here.
