Original BioShock landing on iOS this summer

0

bioshock ios

In what can be considered another proof that smartphones will soon be as powerful as at least last gen consoles, the original BioShock will soon be hitting iOS. The process of porting the seven year old game is being done by 2K Games’ China Studio. The game will be launched as a premium title, just like XCOM: Enemy Unknown and could retail anywhere between $10-30.

Although, you must not expect PC or console like graphics. The game with be severely inferior compared to the PC or the consoles version. Shadows and in-game lighting have been cut down. Engadget notes that the graphics are considerably worse compared to the console versions. All of this has been done so that the game may run smoothly even on the older iPhones. Perhaps, the game might run only on iPhone 4s and above, but we’re only guessing here.

If you have played the game already before, it might not be worth the money. But for first time users, the game could offer something new and exciting. All said, the game shows that smartphones still have a lot of catching up to do before they can be as powerful as the PS4 or the Xbox One. How long that takes is anybody’s guess. Also, there;s no word on whether the game will be ported to other platforms or not.

amazon app store

The Amazon Appstore has been stretching left and right and after reaching just under a quarter million apps mark some time back, it’s ready to spread its wings in 41 new countries.

The new countries that have been added are mostly from Asia, Africa and Oceania. These include Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Gambia, Guinea, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, UAE (United Arab Emirates), Uzbekistan, and Yemen.

Of course the new countries will have regional restrictions and won’t have all the apps available to them. Although still miles behind the Play Store and Apple App Store, we see Amazon App Store competing with the Windows Phone Store, which has close to 270,000 apps.

BBM beta opens up for public on Windows Phone

bbm

The day is finally here when everybody on Windows Phone will be able to use the BlackBerry Messenger. After staying on the platform as a closed beta for a few weeks BlackBerry has finally rolled the curtains and opened it up for the public.

If you had signed up for the closed beta program, you might have to download the app again since the public version of the app is a different from the one that was released a month ago. Hopefully the Canadian company would have ironed out all the shortcomings of the closed beta version (the final release is still beta). Here’s what the app has to offer:

  • Chat with friends on Windows Phone, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry:
  • Know when messages have been delivered (D’s) and read (R’s)
  • Quickly share photos, voice notes, BBM contacts and your location
  • See when contacts are responding to your message
  • Emoticons for every mood and emotion let you express yourself

With most f these features already available on established competitors like WhatsApp, Viber and even Hike, BBM might have a herculean task ahead of itself to establish itself on the platform. Nonetheless, atleast it’s a start.

The description also says, “We’re already working hard on V2 where we’ll introduce additional features to BBM for Windows Phone.” Meanwhile you can download the current version from the Windows Phone Store here.
