Google Play Newsstand app arrives on iOS

0

google play newstand ios

Google has launched its Google Play Newsstand app in the iOS store, a good ten months after the app made its debut on Play Store. Ten months ago, Google killed the Currents app and Play Magazines app on the Play Store and replaced it with the Play Newsstand app. This also means that the Currents app on the App Store is being axed and users are already being notified to move to Newsstand app instead.

Features:

  • Enjoy Read Now to find more of the articles you care about and discover new ones you will love.
  • Subscribe to your favorite publishers and bloggers and easily access their content in a beautifully consistent fashion.
  • Explore categories like Arts & Photography, Business & Finance, Food & Drink and more and subscribe to topics tagged to the articles that interest you most.
  • Bookmark news stories you don’t have time to read for later

The app is being launched as version 3.0 in the App Store and is rather similar to its Android sibling. It’s available for both iPad and iPhone running iOS 7 and above.

Asphalt OverDrive coming to Android, iOS, Windows and Windows Phone tomorrow

Gameloft will be launching the next game in the Asphalt series of high octane racing games called Asphalt OverDrive. The game will be the ninth installment in the series, preceded by Asphalt 8: Airborne. Similar to the last game, Asphalt Overdrive will be free to download, but will come with in-app purchases. The game will debut on Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows.

The gameplay takes a significant turn from the earlier games and instead of looped tracks, Overdrive will feature endless tracks. That’s right, the game will be an endless runner of sort. And like other endless runners, the game will play in vertical orientation on your phone instead of a horizontal one. You’ll have to swipe left or right to change lanes, which is another change from the way cars are handled in the earlier games in the series.

Asphalt Overdrive will feature several licenced cars, including some exotic ones, as well as multiple gameplay elements like cop chases, smashing other cars and properties and what not. You can check out the trailer for the game below.

skype 5.5 ios

Microsoft has pushed an update for Skype on iOS, taking it to version 5.5 on the platform. The biggest addition with the latest update is that of interactive notifications. Interactive notifications enable you to respond directly through the notification center or the lock screen. For instance, you can now answer voice and videos calls as well as jump to text conversations from the lock screen and notification center.

A simple swipe to the left on a notification in the lock screen will open up these options. On the notification center, swiping to the the bottom brings up the same options. You can even choose to answer incoming calls through voice or video from the two locations.

The Skype team plans to add several more features that take advantage of enhanced capabilities of iOS 8 in the coming days. Meanwhile, you can grab Skype for iOS 7 and above from the App Store.

All is not well in the Windows Phone Store

windows phone store

It seems like the Windows Phone Store has been facing some issues over the past weekend. From what we’ve heard, many people have been facing issues like not being able to download or update apps, as well as not being able to find new apps. Also, most categories are showing up empty.

That’s not all of it, since the in-app purchases aren’t working either, leaving many developers out of business. However, it seems like the problem is affecting only a certain mass of users, since we can confirm that these issues weren’t plaguing us.

Microsoft has kept mum on the issue, but we hope they’ve been working behind the scenes to get the issue resolved as soon as possible.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 Mobile adds queues, 15 new levels and much more in the latest update

Roller Coaster Tycoon is one of those classics that hasn’t aged with time. Naturally, when the game was launched on iOS back in April, it delighted a lot of fans throughout the world. The good news is that Atari is seeding the first major update to the game since launch, adding multiple new features to keep players happy. The changelog is one of the biggest we’ve seen across any platform.

Changelog:

“Queue Lines – you now have the option to add Queue Lines to all of your coasters, attractions, and rides! Just build the Queue Line Center to get started! This HUGE new feature adds an entire new dimension to the game as it also can greatly increase the Buzz each ride generates they are added to. Make sure to make the lines long enough or your peeps may get unhappy because they can’t get a space in line! We can’t wait to see what kinds of new parks players create to show off their awesome rides.

15 New User Levels – We added a bunch of new levels to the game so continue to earn XP and level-up to earn rewards and unlock new buildings/goals.

Upgrades:
New Ride Animations – All rides now have a start and stop animation that adds a whole new dimension of realism to the game. It also syncs with your queue lines so your peeps know when to get on and off of rides.

Improved Tutorial – For our first time players, we have gone in and completely redesigned the tutorial to make it easier and faster to get into the game. We also made the first 50 coaster parts you build completely free!

Scheduled Downtime Support – Server downtimes with lack of information are now a thing of the past. We added a brand new way for us to message and inform players when we are tweaking servers and when the game will be back up soon should we ever need to temporarily take it down for support and fixes.”

That’s not all. There are umpteen bug fixes which we didn’t mention here for the fear of making you felling bored. But it seems like Atari had been hard at work to make RCT even better. While we don’t know if the game would ever be launched on Android or any other platforms, iOS users can sure enjoy the new features that the game has to offer.

Minecraft will be coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone

minecraft

With the recent acquisition of Minecraft by Microsoft for a staggering $2.5 billion, many raised questions about whether the game would ever make its way to Windows 8 and Windows Phone (given that it’s already available on Android and iOS). Fortunately, Phil Spencer, the current leader of Microsoft’s Xbox division has confirmed while replying to a fan on Twitter that the game will indeed be making its way to these platforms.

The fan asked, “Phil, would you promise to bring Minecraft to your own platforms/devices (Win8.1 Surface / WP8.1 L1520)?”, to which Phil simply replied, “Yes”. Minecraft’s creator, Markus Persson is known to have taken a stand against Windows 8 due to the new Windows Store ” ruining the pc as an open platform.” As for Windows Phone, the creators never thought the community to be large enough to release the game for the platform. “I’d rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to win 8 that way,” is what he once had to say.

Not so surprisingly, Notch and the other two founders will be leaving the company once the deal with Microsoft is complete. Are you excited about the prospect of Minecraft coming to Windows Phone and Windows 8? Let us know below.

Paramount launches Interstellar game on Android based on the upcoming movie, iOS version next week

Paramount launches Interstellar game on Android based on the upcoming movie, iOS version next week

Seeing what Chistopher Nolan has offered us in the past ( Dark Knight trilogy and Inception), expectations from his upcoming movie Interstellar are making new peaks. Riding on all that hype, Paramount has released an official game based on the movie of the same name. The mobile game tie-in is available in the Play Store for free and surprisingly, does not contain any in-app purchases either. iOS users shouldn’t be disappointed since the game will be making its way to the App Store next week.

Features:

• Play on Phone or Tablet
• Create your own solar system and share it with friends
• Customize planets, stars and asteroids
• Pilot the Endurance through friend’s and other fan’s solar systems
• Upgrade your ship to increase durability and range
• Earn mission patches for completing objectives
• Based on newtonian physics with simulated gravitational fields endorsed by the movie’s science advisor Kip Thorne
• Slingshot between planets and return research data to Earth
• Navigate past massive black holes

As a player, you’re supposed to guide your space ship through the vastness of space, making your way through solar systems, planets and stars. It is actually much more fun than it sounds and once you have your vehicle launched, you can only use gravity and small thrusters to maneuver your way around.

You can get the game on the Play Store here.

Apple pulls HealthKit related apps from the App Store

Apple pulls HealthKit related apps from the App Store

Apple has removed all apps from the App Store using the HealthKit framework. This was done due to a bug in the suite. The apps were supposed to be launched along with iOS 8, but have now been put on hold indefinitely.

Here’s what an Apple spokesperson had to say about the issue:

We discovered a bug that prevents us from making HealthKit apps available on iOS 8 today. We’re working quickly to have the bug fixed in a software update and have HealthKit apps available by the end of the month.”

Healthkit allows third party developers to develop apps that  can then talk with Apple’s native health apps. It allows to pull data from third party devices like calorie monitors. All developers using the framework have been informed of the move. A few apps that have been pulled include Strava, WebMD, Carroft Fit.
