need for speed no limits

Electronics Arts has just announced a new addition to the Need for Speed series. Called Need for Speed: No Limits, the game will be out on major mobile platforms in 2015. No Limits will be developed by Australian studio Firemonkeys, the same studio that delivered us Real Racing 3.

Although the details about the game are sparse for now, it is expected to feature stunning visuals, plethora of cars to choose from, customization options and much more. If Firemonkeys decides to follow Real Racing’s example, you can also expect plenty many in-app purchases.

EA hasn’t said anything about the pricing, but that should be disclosed as the launch date approaches near. It’s also not clear which platforms will be getting the new game, but we think Android and iOS ports are almost certain, along with a Windows Phone version hopefully in works as well.

In the meanwhile, you can check out the first trailer of the game below, featuring professional rally driver Ken Block.

Motorola Camera and Gallery apps pushed to newer versions

After being among the first companies to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop for its handsets, Motorola is pushing out updates for its Camera and Gallery apps in the Play Store. The most prominent change is the introduction of Material Design on both the apps, which will surely fit well with that that latest version of Android on the Moto G.

That’s not all though, since the update also adds a handful of features on the Camera app. The app gets new 3 seconds and 10 seconds timer options as well as a new double wrist flick gesture to switch back and forth between the rear and front cameras. The latter is only available on the Moto X (2013 and 2014), Droid Ultra, and Droid Turbo.

Motorola Gallery should also offer improved performance. Grab both the apps from the below links.

Popular third party keyboard SwiftKey has received a major update on Android. The update claims to make the app faster than before by reducing the time it takes for the keyboard to appear, as well as the keyboard quit time. Switching between fields is also faster and the app is said to be more responsive while typing.

In sheer numbers, the time it takes for the keyboard to appear from a cold start has been reduced by 15-20%. The time taken for the app to quit is down by 20-30%, while switching between fields is 15-50% faster. As for the typing response, the company claims that’s been improved by 10-18% over the previous version.

That’s not all though, since SwiftKey also gets support for 12 additional languages, mostly from the Indian subcontinent. These include: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Nepali, Sinhala.

Chinese developers will now be able to sell their apps on the Play Store

play store

Until now, some very talented developers from China were denied chance to make great fortunes on the Play Store by selling their apps, as according to Google’s policies, Chinese developers can not sell their apps on the Play Store. Although Play Store is not present in the country, Google is now accepting entries from the local developers that will then be available for users to download across 130 countries.

As you might know, the Great Firewall of China has resulted in limited Google services being available in the country. In fact, Android devices sold in the country come sans the Play Store and other Google services. As such, local users have to rely on other stores for apps, including that from Baidu, Tencent and others. Apple on the other hand gets to operate its own App Store in the country (and rake in all the profits). However, with the market strongly dominated by Android, Google is planning to introduce a local version of the Play Store that complies with the strict Chinese policies. The decision to allow Chinese developers to publish their apps could be a move in that direction.

Chinese developers publishing their apps on the Play Store will get all features enjoyed by their counterparts in other countries, including in-app purchases and subscriptions. For users around the world, this means getting to enjoy some great quality Chinese content.

Foursquare pushed to version 4.0 on Windows Phone

Foursqaure has finally pushed a meaningful update to its Windows Phone app, taking it to version 4.0. The app gets a major redesign with a fresh UI and does away with the check-in feature that’s been pushed to the Swarm app instead. Don’t worry, the app still has a check-in option, however, clicking on it takes you to the Swamp app instead, granted you’ve installed it on your phone. The app instead focuses on discovery and review of new places for users.

Foursquare is one of those few apps that are still supported on Windows Phone 7.5. Grab version 4 of the app the current as well as earlier version of Windows Phone from the store link below.

It seems like Telltale’s party over at iOS is in no mood to end. After slashing the price of The Walking Dead: Season Two on iOS to naught (just for the first episode), the company has now made another of its titles free to download, this time The Wolf Among Us.

The Wolf Among Us is a critically acclaimed title that features Telltale’s signature interactive graphic adventure gameplay and follows the story of Bigby Wolf, aka The Big Bad Wolf. The game is based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comic book series and features 5 episodes in all. Users need to swipe on the screen or interact with on screen objects, with their decisions impact the final outcome of the story. Starting today, you’ll be able to download and play the first episode of the game for free. Subsequent episodes can be purchased for $4.99 each, or the entire set for $14.99 (trust us, you’re gonna want it).

Viber goes social with Social Chats

Viber takes a dip into social networking with the new social chats feature

With so many messaging services around, companies are fighting to grab the biggest chunk of market share by offering features unique to their service. Viber has decided to add a new chapter by not just being a messaging service anymore. The company is introducing what it calls Public Chats to its app. The feature will allow millions of users around the globe to tune in to an a live conversation. The conversation could be anything from an interview between an interviewer and a celeb, to an ongoing sports commentary.

Users will only be able to listen to the channel unless the account in conversation is added in their contacts. Viber has already signed up celebrities like Perez Hilton, Tyler Oakley, Pixie Lott, Anastacia, DJ Paul van Dyk and many more. It’s not something completely new, since we’ve seen WeChat allowing users to follow their favorite celebs in China for a month for free. To listen to a public chat, users will need to open Public Chats bar from the main menu, and select the compass icon to find a list of available Public Chats to follow.

The feature will work on all platforms (although it has started rolling out with just Android for now) for Viber 5.0 and above. With over 200 million users, Viber is hoping to bring a few more from competitors like WhatsApp and WeChat, both of which have over 600 million users each.

Facebook launches Facebook Groups, a standalone app for your Facebook groups on iOS and Android

Facebook launches Groups, a standalone apps for Facebook groups in iOS and Android

While Facebook’s decision to filter out Messenger from its core app hasn’t gone well with the masses, Facebook hardly seems to care. The company has launched a new app in the iOS and Android app stores called Facebook Groups. As the name would suggest, the app allows you to manage all your Facebook groups in one place. The app automatically sorts the groups based on how frequently you interact with them and shows the popular ones on the top.

That’s not all since the app also allows you to post images and updates, create new groups, manage and control your notifications and discover new groups suggested on the basis of the pages you’ve liked.

The good news is that you can manage to monitor your groups through the main Facebook app (for now) and the new app is purely optional. Grab it from the store links below.
