The Walking Dead: Season One now available on Android

walking dead season one android

If you hate zombies but love The Walking Dead comics/TV series, you might want to check out “The Walking Dead: Season One” that has been launched on Android. The game was already available on other platforms including iOS since the past 2 years, but it’s good to see it finally landing on the Android shores.

Based on the comic of the same name, the player is required to show his survival skills in this horror survival adventure game. You won’t be controlling much of player movements in the game, but would be interacting with on-screen objects which then determine the outcome through interactive cutscenes.

The game has some minimum hardware requirements though, and requires a minimum of 1GB RAM, dual core processor and Adreno 200 series, Mali-400 series, PowerVR SGX540, or Tegra 3 GPU. The first episode in the game is free to play, but the other four will have to be purchased within the app for $4.99 each. or, you could save some money and get all four of them together for $14.99. You can get the app on the Play Store here.

Gradually, smartphones are turning into things we wouldn’t have dreamed of five years ago. Watching videos and surfing net is considered a basic feature nowadays, smartphones have a much greater destiny. And among several other things, you’ll now be able to detect magnetic fields with your Windows Phone using Magnetic field detector. You won’t be able to detect landmines using this app, but it’s great nonetheless.

Using your phone’s built in magnetometer (which is used primarily for GPS), the app can enable your Windows Phone to detect . You can use it to find what things around you are made of.

Top Paid app on Google Play Store ‘Virus Shield’ a fake

While Google’s open door policy has many advantages, it comes with its own share of risks. Some apps published on the Play Store are not only fake, but pose a serious security threat by compromising the data on the phone and tapping into the messages and the call history. A recent such example showed up in the form of an app called ‘Virus Shield’. The app claimed to be an antivirus program that could protect the phone from malware, spyware and such. It even claimed to boost your phone’s speed by one touch. The $3.99 app quickly climbed to the top spot on the ‘Top Paid’ list on the Play Store. In the two weeks that it was listed, the app managed to get 10,000 downloads with a 4.5 star review from 1,700 people.

However, as discovered by Android Police, the app is a fake. the only thing it does is change an “X” graphic to a red “check”. It doesn’t really offer any kind of security and was created by a scammer who had earlier been banned from another website’s forums for similar reasons. Google has since taken down the app, but the users who’ve purchased it already have been robbed of their money, unless Google steps in and pays them a compensation.

This does raise questions about how effective Google’s strategy with Android is. With Microsoft also having automated the process of app approval on Windows Phone Store, it seems no one except Apple users are completely safe from such crooked schemes.

Vimeo picks an update on iOS, improves search and Swipe gestures

vimeo

Video sharing app Vimeo has picked an update on iOS taking the version number to 4.0.10. Among the changes, the biggest is the improvement to its search. The earlier difficult to spot search bar has now been placed at the top of the display permanently. With the earlier version, search bar had to be pulled down from top of a feed.

The update also makes improvements to the swipe gestures. Upon swiping to the left, a video will be added to Watch Later list and downloaded on the phone, while a swipe to the right will allow you to like and share it. Vimeo has also addressed some playback and networking bugs in the latest update. The team promises to improve the experience even further in the coming days. Here’s the changelog:

  • Copious convenience: Now you’ll see the search bar right at the top of your screen!
  • Automated additions: Add videos to Watch Later AND your device in one fell swipe.
  • Additional fixes: We kicked some pesky playback and networking bugs to the curb.

You can grab Vimeo on the App Store for free here.

  • the blur vignette has been separated from the brightness vignette so that each can have it’s own size
  • shadows and highlights can now go in either direction so you can darken shadows and lighten highlights (the algorithm was rewritten for a higher quality result)
  • there are several new global presets that make use of some of the changes
  • the FX brushes has a new option for soft focus, this can be helpful for removing wrinkles or blemishes
