0

google calender android

Google Calender is another core Android app that has received an update. Taking the version number to v201404011, the update adds the ability to add location suggestions from Google Maps of nearby places when creating a new event. The feature was already present on the web app and has been asked for in the Android version for quite a while now. The update adds new Access to Coarse Location permission for making suggestions based on your location. Earlier, the app could only suggest location of your contacts.

The update also adds support for video calls. You can right away join conference calls from your phone. However, users still can’t add video call support to a meeting created in the Android app.

You can find the Google Calender app in the Play Store here.

Flickr get a major overhaul on Android and iOS with version 3.0

flickr

Yahoo’s popular photo sharing service Flickr is borrowing a page or two from Instagram for its app on Android and iOS. The app has been updated to version 3.0 on both platforms, adding features like filters and editing tools. Even the UI of the app now resembles more like Instagram. You can also now comment, like and share photos similar to Instagram. Then, you can shoot 30 seconds videos and add filters to them before sharing them with the world. The update also adds metadata to an image, revealing the make of the camera it was shot with, the aperture and ISO setting set for the image and more. Flickr has also added the ability to share these images through Dropbox and Google+.

Besides these changes, the update has also dropped the option to login through Facebook and Google account. You’ll need to have a Yahoo account if you plan on using all these new shiny features.

The update is live on the Play Store, but is yet to hit iOS. Although, we reckon it shouldn’t take long.

Google Camera app hits Play Store

google camera app

Google has launched a camera app on the Android Play Store dubbed as Android Camera. The app adds a few features on the default camera app found on Android phones. It introduces a new feature called lens blur, that as the name suggests, blurs the objects in the background to give your photos a DSLR like look with shallow depth-of-field. As with the other similar apps from manufacturers being released these days, you can also change the objects in focus after taking the photograph.

The app also improves upon the panorama mode, allowing the camera to capture high resolution panoramas. Then there’s Photo Sphere. The feature allows you to click 360 degree photo spheres at up to 50 megapixels. the feature was earlier exclusive to Nexus devices.

The app is available in the Play Store for free and works with devices running Android 4.4 and up for now. Google has promised to add more devices in the future through updates. You can pick the app here.

Microsoft breaks the Games Hub on Windows Phone 8.1 with the latest update

games windows phone

With Windows Phone 8.1, Microsoft has separated the Games app from the core OS, making it easier to update in the future. The first update for the app is already here. Although there’s no changelog, we’re assuming general bug fixes and such. The update takes the version to 2.0.1404.11000.

Like many users that have written not so kind reviews for the app, as soon as we updated the app on our phone, it broke and isn’t showing any games that were already installed on the phone. We hope Microsoft addresses the issue soon.

If you still wish to update the app (though we would advise against it), you can find it on the Windows Phone Store here.

Clock Hub is an interesting app that puts time on a Live Tile on Windows Phone 8.1

clock hub

With Windows Phone 8.1, Microsoft has given developers the option to update Live Tile for their apps every minute. One of the most simple use of this could be to have the time displayed on it and with Clock Hub you can exactly do that.

The app puts the time on a Live Tile that gets updated every minute. You can either set it up in 12 hour or 24 hour format. What’s more the Live Tile for the app also supports custom background. Here: what the app has to offer in terms of features:

  • The only that updates every minute.
  • Supports 24 hours format based on your region.

Simple, just like the app. You can get Clock Hub for free from the Windows Phone Store here and pin it to the Start Screen to use it. The app requires Windows Phone 8.1, so it’ll only work if you’re using the developer preview version of the new OS.
