Google removing Swift Copters clones from the Play Store

swing copters

Seeing what a success Flappy Bird was, it wasn’t particularly surprising when hundreds of Swing Copters clones jumped in the Play Store immediately after the launch of the original on August 21st. With sly names such as Copters Swing (magic?), these clones hope to get a few downloads by confusing users as to which is the original title. However, Google jumped into action and has removed most of these titles from the Store.

Google is reportedly removing anything with a resemblance to Swing Copters’ name or appearance. It’s apparently cleaned up hundreds of titles already and searching for Swing Copters displays the original title on the top. Even though these clones may look exactly like Swing Copters, there difficulty can vary from the original.

The best way to recognize Swing Copters from a bunch of me too’s is by checking the developer of the title. Nguyen published his titles under the .GEARS Studios banner.

Swing Copters lands on iOS and Android

Sewing Copters lands on iOS and Android

After the tremendous success of Flappy Bird, developer Dong Nguyen has released another game in the Android Play Store and Apple App Store named Swing Copters. Like Flappy Bird, the game relies on its difficulty to keep players engaged. In fact, the gameplayis even more difficult than what we were used to seeing on Flappy Bird.

Swing Copter has players guide a bird vertically upwards instead of the horizontal forward motion in Flappy Bird. To make things worse, the obstacles (which seem to be like hammers) in this one are oscillating, making them all the more difficult to dodge. Tapping on the screen changes the direction of the character.

Swing Copters is available in the Play Store and App Store. It comes with ads, but users have the option to spend a dollar and get rid of them. You can grab the game at the links below.

There’s an app that makes sure your young ones answer your calls always

ignore no more android

Being a parent isn’t usually as easy as it seems, especially when your young ones consider themselves old enough to ignore your calls (after calls). Fortunately, there’s an app that should leave them with no option but to talk to you and let you know about their whereabouts.

The app has been aptly named “Ignore No More”. The app blocks access to a smartphone if the user of that phones fails to respond to repeated texts and calls from his guardians. The only way then to unlock the phone is by calling someone on a preset list of contacts. So there’s no WhatsApp or Facebook until the young ones calls their parents and let them know what they’re up to.

Ignore No More costs $2 on each phone that it’s installed on. One account can control multiple “child” devices from multiple “parent” devices. It’s extremely difficult to be uninstalled (unless your child is a tech prodigy) and is fairly simple to be setup.

Ignore No More is only available on Android for now and can be picked from the Play Store here.

OneNote for Android gets handwriting support, tablet optimized UI and more

OneNote for Android gets handwriting support, tablet optimized UI and more

Hot on the heels of updating OneNote for Windows, Microsoft has pushed an update for the app on Android as well. The update makes the interface on OneNote optimized for Android tablets. Here’s the changelog:

  • Take handwritten notes or draw with a stylus or with your finger.
  • Use a variety of formatting options like font types, font sizes, alignments, and tags on your tablet.
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements.

The addition of handwriting support is the biggest and most welcome change here. Here’s what Microsoft has to say about it:

“Handwriting support has been the biggest feature request and we have listened to your feedback! If you have an Android tablet, say goodbye to pen and paper because now you have OneNote to take notes during lectures or meetings. With this update you can take handwritten notes, draw with your stylus and even with your finger. Your notes will sync across all your devices, helping you access them easily and stay organized.”

The update also makes the app ultilize the extra space on tablets. The new navigation is similar to ribbon based navigation on the iPad and lets you scan through your notebooks and sections so you change to your notes quickly. New formatting options include: font type, font size, font color, highlight color, text alignment and heading style. You can also add tags to your notes.

Google’s Photo Sphere lands on iOS

Google's Photo Sphere lands on iOS

While Google might not show much of love to Windows Phone, it definitely doesn’t feel the same way about iOS. The company has published its Photo Sphere app on the Apple App Store. The feature has been available on Google’s Camera app on Android for quite some time now.

As the name suggests, Photo Sphere allows users to create photo spheres on their phone. And if that still doesn’t make it clear, photo spheres are panoramas that not only cover the horizontal axis, but spawn in all directions covering 360 degree view. It’s pretty simple and Google has even posted a video about it.

You can view your photo spheres on your iPhone and also upload them to Views, Google’s dedicated website for photo spheres. You can also upload photo spheres to Google Maps.

Photo Sphere is available for iOS 7 and above. It’s not available on iPhone 4 or below.

OneNote updated for Windows 8.1/RT, adds printing support

OneNote updated for Windows 8.1/RT, adds printing support

Microsoft has updated the OneNote app for Windows 8.1 and RT. The update brings the much requested printing support feature, which to be honest, should have been added in the app long back. In Microsoft’s own words, “With this update, it’s a breeze to print your notes, and OneNote supports all of the features you’d expect including beautiful full color page previews, portrait and landscape orientations, multiple copies, duplex printing, and more.”

The update also brings other features to the OneNote app including file attachment support that allows saving documents in notes. Then, there’s new added support for printing to PDF files. The update also adds a highlighter tool. According to the company, “Highlighter is now included in the radial menu next to the four pen styles, and you can customize the color and thickness to your liking. This feature is especially useful when combined with PDF printouts.”

You can pick OneNote for Windows 8.1 and RT running devices from the store here.

Flappy Bird successor named Swing Copters, coming on August 21st

swing copters

It’s been quite some time since Flappy Bird was pulled from Android and iOS stores, but all that fame and buzz that it created still lives to this day. Although it seems like Flappy Birds won’t be returning anytime soon, it’s successor should step in its stead.

Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen will soon be launching Swing Copters. The game seems to draw inspiration from Flappy Birds and looks and feels quite similar. The major difference between the two being that instead of guiding your bird forward horizontally, you’ll be tasked with taking your bird (or copter) upwards avoiding all the obstacles in between. Oh, and the obstacles this time will also be in swinging motion, making it all the more difficult.

Swing Copters will be released on August 21st. This time Nguyen will be releasing two versions of the app — one that will come with ads and cost nothing, and second without ads that will be priced at $0.99. Meanwhile, you can checkout the gameplay in the video below.
