comedy central app

Comedy Central has brought more laughs to iOS users ,and not just on the April fools day. It has launched a centralized app for it’s show, stocked with nearly 200 episodes and stand-up specials for streaming, and all for free. Previously, it had different apps for different shows.

The app features full seasons of such shows as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, South Park, and The Colbert Report. To get access to these shows, you’ll need to verify your subscription. However, there’s other stuff to see that doesn’t need any subscription. The full episodes will carry ads, but the load will be lower than on TV, with typically one ad per break in the Comedy Central app. Here’s the feature log:

  •  Full episodes available next day
  •  Stand-up specials
  •  Archive selections, including every episode of Chappelle’s Show
  •  Continue watching right where you left off
  •  Share the best clips with your friends

At launch, the following shows are available through the app:

  • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart*
  • The Colbert Report*
  • South Park*
  • @midnight*
  • Tosh.0
  • Workaholics
  • Key & Peele
  • Broad City
  • Kroll Show
  • Review
  • Inside Amy Schumer
  • Futurama
  • RENO 911!
  • Chappelle’s Show
  • Original digital shorts*
  • Plus more shows added all the time

Note: Shows with * against their names require TV subscription.

The Comedy Central app does require iOS 7, but isn’t launching with AirPlay support, which is in the pipeline for near future.

Microsoft will soon be bringing Outlook Web App to Android

outlook android

Microsoft seems to have developed a soft spot for Android of late, or perhaps, it wants the majority of smartphone users to use its services. After making Office on Android free, the company has now announced that it would be bringing the Outlook Web App to Android platform soon. The app is already available for iOS and requires Office 365 for business. . The app will bring unique features not available on third party alternatives like migrating all of your company emails, notices and other Outlook related things.

Like the iOS version, the app will most likely be free, although Microsoft hasn’t given a timeline on the release date. Hopefully the app would allow some of you to use your personal phone instead of a company provided one.

The website, which is known for its user uploaded witty humor has a huge collection of pictures, GIFs and videos that will make you smile (or laugh). What’s more, users can upload anything that they find funny and share it with the whole world.

You can get the official app from the Store here, or can scan the QR code below. Also, you might want to use these links, since there are a lot of third party apps and it’s hard to tell the authentic one from the clones.

Foursquare on Windows Phone gets an update after a long time

foursquare

While major app developers have brought their apps to the Windows Phone Store, not all of them have followed by regularly updating their apps. The last time Foursquare for Windows Phone was updated was in October 2013. Fortunately, the app has picked an update today taking the version to  3.1.4.5.

There’s no changelog, but users are reporting minor UI changes. Also, the front page of the app has ‘Saved’ instead of ‘Trending’, supposedly for quicker access of your favorite locations and lists. Also, the bug with pinning Check-in to your Start Screen has been fixed. Previously, upon re-launching the app the second time from the Check-in tile, it would be partially cut of.

Shazam has just rolled out an update for its iOS app, making some cosmetic changes to the app. The update takes the version to 7.5.0. The update brings a new track page design and a new look for video, album & track reviews, artist bios, and more.

Adding to the changes of the last month update, the update focuses on getting the app more social with new social sharing features, an even better lyrics experience and a more polished and sleek UI throughout the application. Users can now see in-depth artist biographies, redesigned album and song pages, as well as the inclusion of videos for songs. The app has also been tweaked to have enhanced audio recognition and drain less battery. The update is initially only available for iOS, but the Android version is expected to be launched soon. Here’s the full changelog:

  • We’ve got a whole new track page design for you in this release. You’ll also get a new look and feel for video, album & track reviews, artist bios and more. Many song lyrics will now even scroll in time with the music.
  • We’ve made Auto Shazam more efficient so you don’t need to worry about your battery life while it’s running.
  • Rdio users, you can now add a Shazam track to any of your playlists.
  • Connect to Facebook to see what your friends are Shazaming and share your discoveries via the new share screen.
  • We’ve also made it easier for you to control your news feed notifications from within the app.

You can pick the iOS version of the app in the App Store here.

Another instance of spamming on Windows Phone Store shows up

google apps windows phone

Windows Phone already had a lot of spam problem, but Microsoft’s decision to make the app approval process automated, might just have made it worse. Recently, a developer registered himself with the name of Google, Inc (Google is registered on the Store as Google Inc) and published real looking Google apps including Google Maps, Hangouts, Google Search, Google Plus and Gmail. Not to say the least that the developer had used authentic looking logos as well. The apps which were probably nothing more than web apps, were priced heftily $1.99 each.

It’s obvious that the developer was looking in to cash in on some not so aware consumers. Microsoft has since removed the apps and the developer from the Store, but it goes without saying that it needs to step in to control the spam problem on the Store. Don’t believe us? Try searching for Facebook in the Windows Phone Store.

Facebook Messenger update on iOS brings group chat

facebook messenger ios

Facebook’s Messenger app has been updated on iOS recently. The update adds the ability to make groups and have conversation with your friends in one place. Of course, this is nothing new and has been available on Facebook’s site for a while now. Still, the feature is new to the iOS app.

In 2011, Facebook acquired group messaging service Beluga, which it later shut down. Seems like company is finally using those skills it learnt from the acquisition into its Messenger app. Along with that, the update brings general bug fixes and improvements along. Also, you can forward a message or photo to someone who isn’t in your conversation by simply tapping it, pretty WhatsApp.

Microsoft Office on Android doesn’t need Office 365 subscription to edit files anymore

0

office adroid

Microsoft is making some key changes on how it wants its competitors to offer services that are core Microsoft. A day after making Office available on the iPad, Microsoft has now made Office on Android absolutely free for home use. The app, which earlier require an Office 365 subscription to edit or create new Excel sheets and Word files, will no longer need the same for home use. Users will just need to sign in using their free Microsoft account and start editing or creating new Excel and Word files. Although, PowerPoint presentations can still not be created or edited. Business users will have to purchase the app.

The move is rather surprising since we’d never have expected such a move from Microsoft, especially on Android. Although we don’t expect the newly released iPad app to get the same treatment.
