There’s a free trial available in the Store by the name of Halo: SA Lite, but believe us, it’s nothing compared tot he actual game.

Facebook Messenger gets updated on Android and Windows Phone

facebook

Facebook Messenger has received an update on both Windows Phone and Android, taking the version numbers to 3.1 and 4.0 respectively. Talking about the update on Android first, it brings the ability to pin a conversation to your home screen. The update brings other features that were introduced in the update for iOS last week. Users can now create groups and group chat using their Android phones. You can also forward images and conversations to people not in that conversation, as well as make free calls over WiFi for free, or through your network using standard billing rates. You can get the latest version of the app on the Play Store here.

On Windows Phone, the update still doesn’t bring all the new features that Android and iOS users can now enjoy. Although, the update does add the ability to save photographs. The notifications have also been improved, while the app is much more robust and uses less data. You can pick the for Windows Phone for free here, or can scan the QR code below.

Samsung ChatOn app now allows you to recall those embarrassing sent messages

samsung chaton

Samsung ChatOn is a cross platform messaging service that isn’t half as popular as Samsung smartphones. Still, Samsung is trying every possible trick in its book to get users to actually use the app rather than just keep it on their phones. The latest update to the app allows users to recall those sent messages which you knew you were going to regret sending the moment they were gone from your phone. Users can recall messages sent to friends in a 1:1 chatroom even if the other person has already read them. The sender just needs to tap and hold the message bubble and select ‘Recall’ to make the message disappear.

The update also adds the ability to share real-time location with friends for a limited period of time through integration with the Glympse application. That’s not all though, since users will now be able to share files up to 1GB in size. Also, a group can now hold up to 1,001 persons instead of the earlier limit of 200. The update also adds advanced translation features with the addition of Arabic, Turkish, Farsi and Hindi, thus taking the total number of supported languages to 14.

Samsung ChatOn is available on Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, as well as other feature phones and PC.

Microsoft unveils universal Windows apps

universal windows apps

Until now, developers had to code their app twice to bring it out on Windows Phone and Windows 8. Microsoft has made their lives a lot easier by unveiling universal Windows apps that will allow developers to create a single app that will work on Windows and Windows Phone. The company will later be adding support for Xbox One as well in the future.

With universal Windows apps developers won’t have to do the tedious task of recoding their apps. They will be able to test their apps on both Windows and Windows Phone emulators and make cosmetic changes accordingly to look best on the different screen sizes. What’s more, the move will also allow users to purchase a single app that’ll work across all platforms. For example, to play Halo: Spartan Assault on your smartphone, tablet and Xbox, presently you need to buy it three times. That won’t be the case in the future, but then, that’s up to the developers to decide.

With Microsoft’s goal to unify Windows Store and Windows Phone Store, universal Windows apps seems like the first step in that direction. It should also see more timely release across Windows Store and Windows Phone Store, since there won’t be much of a rework on developer’s end.

Skype on Windows Phone to support voice commands

skype for windows phone

Now that Windows Phone 8.1 has been announced, it’s time that apps on the platform take advantage of the new features. The first in line will be Microsoft’s own Skype app. An incoming update for the app will bring support for Cortana voice commands.

For instance, you’ll just have to nicely ask Cortana to Skype one of your contacts and it will open up the app for you and make the call, without you having to move a finger.

We’re expecting more features when the update arrives, but this is all Joe Belfiore had to reveal for now. They’ll need to make the app better, since it’s got some stiff competition now. As for Cortana support, Twitter and Facebook will be the other two apps taking advantage of it at launch. You can get Skype on your Windows Phone here. The update however, should come out once Windows Phone 8.1 is out on devices.
