A good number of Xbox Live titles have gone missing from the Windows Phone Store since Microsoft announced Windows Phone 8. While not all, but a good number of them have returned on the Windows Phone Store today. Here’s the list of titles making a comeback on the Store.

Besides getting support for Windows Phone 8/8.1, the updates to these titles also makes them compatible with devices having 512MB RAM. With Xbox Live not getting many new titles, it’s good to see some oldies returning to the store.

Snapchat adds a new location based feature called Geofilters

snapchat ios

With competitors borrowing a lot from Snapchat, the company is doing all it can to stay ahead in the race. Now, Snapchat has added a new feature to the app called Geofilters. The new filter setting adds text filters corresponding to your location. You can only use ones that are available in your location. These filters don’t just cover an entire city but also change depending on the neighborhood you’re in. After clicking a photo, simply slide to the right and you’ll have a bunch of filters available for that particular location.

For now, Geofilters are available only in New York and Los Angeles, but we expect more cities to be covered in the coming days. Also we might see crowd sourced filters sooner or later due to the rather huge presence of the app across the globe. Geofilter should work without needing to update the app. In case you don’t have Snapchat on your phone already, find the store links below. Also, check out the video below the links to see Geofilters in action.

Windows Phone Store now has over 270,000 apps

windows phone store

Last we heard, the Windows Phone Store had over 255,000 apps. Since then, the number has swelled to just over 270,000. The news was broken Microsoft at Worldwide Partner Conference. that’s 15,000 more apps in a period of less than one month.

We have no doubt most of these new additions are going to be junk anyways. There were only a handful of high profile launches in the last month and many high profile apps are still missing from the Windows Phone Store, including titles like QuizUp, Citibank and Candy Crush.

Microsoft also revealed that the Windows Phone Store has seen close to 4 billion app downloads and a 440% growth in monthly paid app revenue since launch.

That’s all good, but there’s still a long way to go before the Windows Phone Store can catch up with Play Store or iTunes Store. We’ve heard rumors lately that Microsoft might bring Android app support to Windows Phone, but that is then, just a rumor.

Shazam and Rdio have already been collaborating in the past and now they’ve taken it to another level. Shazam has announced that a new update to the app will now allow users to stream full tracks from Rdio’s library without exiting the app. Earlier the app only allowed a preview of the song to be played from the same source.

“Shazaming a song is just the beginning of a listener’s journey,” said Daniel Danker, Chief Product Officer for Shazam. “Now, in partnership with Rdio, fans can listen to the music they discover without even leaving the app, making Shazam a terrific place to enjoy great music.”

Rdio subscribers will now see a new play button in the app. They’ll also get access to two new features — Shazamed Tracks: A new automatic playlist feature that creates a list within Rdio of all the tracks a user has Shazamed, and “Add to Playlist” button, that allows users to choose additional Rdio playlists into which they can put the songs they Shazam.

Users without Rdio service will be prompted to install Rdio from the App Store.

The update is available on iOS and should be rolled out on Android in the coming days.

BBM lands on Windows Phone as private beta

bbm

After making debut on Android and iOS, BlackBerry has finally released the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on Windows Phone, making the rumors about the July launch of the app true. Don’t get too excited to download the app and start sharing your PIN just yet though. BBM has been listed on the Windows Phone Store as a private beta. This means only people with special invite will be able to download and use the app. Fret not, for these are sure signs that a wider launch isn’t far now.

Although Windows Phone has most of the messengers available, BBM had been missing from the list until now. It didn’t seem like BlackBerry was even interested in bringing the app to the platform until the recent sales of WhatsApp and Viber. Perhaps the Canadian maker now realizes, the more users the merrier. And even though the install base of Windows Phone isn’t among the biggest, every user counts.

You can get BBM for Windows Phone through the store link, however, unless you have an invite, you won’t be able to download the app just yet.

Official BBC iPlayer Radio app lands on Windows Phone

bbc iplayer radio

Back in May, BBC iPlayer received a major overhaul on Windows Phone, but unfortunately dropped support for Radio. BBC said it was working on a separate Radio app for Windows Phone back then and now they delivered on their promise and released BBC iPlayer Radio on the Windows Phone Store.

BBC iPlayer Radio steams live from all BBC radio stations. Users can live stream their favorite shows and catch up on hundreds of on demand programes on the go. You can also bowse through features, video and audio clips, including live music performances. Although the UI of the app is nothing more than a web wrapper placed in an app, it’s functional with working Live Tiles of all sizes, as well as player integration.

The app utilizes heavy data and BBC advises to use the app over WiFi. UK customers can grab the app at the link given below.
