Third party Snapchat clients removed from the Windows Phone Store

6snap

Ever since the massive user data leak that rocked Snapchat, the company has been tightening the noose around third party clients. It had already warned users against using third party clients, and now it seems like all third party Snapchat clients have disappeared from the Windows Phone Store, including Rudy Huyn’s 6snap. This essentially leaves Windows Phone users without access to Snapchat, since there’s no official app available on the platform, unlike that on Android and iOS.

However, 6snap developer Rudy has taken it to Twitter and announced that he’s working with Microsoft to bring back the app for Windows Phone users. He’s also claimed that there’s no official app in the works for Windows Phone, but then, this cannot be taken as a 100 percent confirmation.

We hope for the sake of Snapchat users that either Snapchat releases an official Windows Phone app, or allows users to use 6snap instead.

Facebook launches new Stickered for Messenger app

stickered for messenger

Facebook has released a new app called Stickered for Messenger. The app has been developed by the same team who’s behind the Facebook Messenger.

– Pick as many stickers as you want
– Stick them on before or after you snap a photo
– Decorate photos from your gallery, too
– Drag, pinch, stretch and rotate stickers
– Add captions to complete the scene
– Send your creations to friends with Messenger

The app allows you to put stickers that are present on Messenger on your photos. And once you’re satisfied with your creation, you can share it with your friends on, well, Facebook Messenger. To be frank, we don’t get the point behind the app, but there you still have it, the ability to add as many stickers on your photos as you want. The app is live in the Play Store (link below) and should be coming to iOS soon.

Facebook will also be rolling out changes to Messenger in the coming days to celebrate the festive season. We’ll keep you updated on it.

Popular cloud storage and file hosting service Mega (founded by Kim Dotcom, also the founder of Megaupload) has got an official app on Windows Phone. However,  at the moment, the app is only available for people who signed up to test the beta version of the app.

Mega provides 50GB of storage free to its users, the highest among competing services. It also offers special encryption that keeps your data private. Of course, since the app is in beta, it lacks many features and could contain potentially many bugs. The team has admitted that the app currently lacks  Notifications for live UI updates, a Rubbish bin,  and “Camera Uploads” for backing up entire photo albums. Also, it will get many UI changes in the coming days as it inches towards a final release version.

Halfbrick, the studio behind titles like Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja, has  made all its other games on iOS free (with in-app purchases of course). While some of the titles from the studio are already free to download, the others that were paid have gone free too. These include Age of Zombies: Season 2, Colossatron: Massive World Threat, Fruit Ninja, and Monster Dash, which were previously priced at $0.99, and also Fish Out Of Water!, which previously cost $1.99.

We’re not sure if these titles have gone free permanently, or are available at the discounted price for the holiday season. Our advice? Grab them while they’re free.

The game features popular characters like Bugs Bunny, Road Runner and more. Unlike other traditional endless runners where you run until you die, Looney Tunes Dash makes you run until you win. You are supposed to complete levels and thereby, gain access to new levels alongside evading villains like Wil E. Coyote. As you progress, you also unlock new characters and abilities. At launch, there are 90 levels to conquer. The game also features Looney Tunes Collector’s Cards spread across each level. These include facts about classic episodes.

The game is available for free and can be picked at the links below.

[Updated] Nokia to focus on HERE Maps for Android and iOS, Microsoft to take control of Windows Phone version

nokia here maps android

Update: Nokia has issued a statement, clarifying that they’ll support Windows Phone in the future.

“We have noticed some discussions in the blogosphere about HERE on Windows Phone. We want to clarify that we are committed to providing great products and consumer experiences for Windows based phones. We will continue to support our HERE apps to ensure that they will be compatible with future versions of Windows.”

It seems like the list of official apps on Windows Phone that are managed by Microsoft will soon get a new entrant. Nokia has revealed that it would be halting development of the Windows Phone version of HERE Maps and instead will invest its resources “based on a realistic market”. Speaking to DigiToday, Udo Szabo, Director of Product Marketing at HERE, said:

“When did Nokia phones, our goal was slightly different. Now we are developing applications on the basis of a realistic market. Microsoft will pay our maps license fees and is responsible for application development.”

Nokia has already outed an Android version of its app on the Samsung Galaxy Store, which has seen millions of downloads, and expects to release an iOS version of the app early next year. Windows Phone version won’t be dead of course, and will be continued to be developed by Microsoft. Although, it could mean that the Windows Phone version could be the last to get new features in the future, but that’s just a hypothesis for now.
