Microsoft’s Xim app is a new way to share photos on Windows Phone, Android and iOS

Microsoft's Xim app is a new way to share photos on Windows Phone, Android and iOS

Microsoft has released a new app by the name of Xim that allows users to share photos with a group of friends. You must be thinking why release Xim when there are a dozen or high quality photo sharing apps already available in the market? Well, Xim has been designed a little differently.

Xim allows your friends to see the same photo as you’re watching without having the need to pass the phone to every member in the group. Xim allows you all to view and even zoom the same photo at the same time without having to share your phone. These pics can be either from your Camera Roll or from sources like Facebook, Instagram, OneDrive or Dropbox. Another useful feature is that your friends don’t even need to have the app installed to see these photos, as they can access the web version of the app. It’s like projecting your screen on your friends’ devices, but only for photos. Once you select the friends that you wish to share these images with, they are sent a weblink via text. Users with Xim can even add photos to the slideshow, while everybody can add text comments.

These shared photos expire after a short interval of time, ensuring you won’t have to go to each member of the group later and ask them to delete these photos (unless they take a screenshot, of course). The app is available only in the US for now, but could soon be expanded to other countries.

Grab the app for free at the links below.

Flipboard for Windows Phone gets its first update

Flipboard to arrive on Windows Phone anytime now

Shortly after being released, the Flipboard team has published the first update for its Windows Phone app. The update takes the app to version 2.4.1.0 and brings a couple of new features.

Changelog:

  • Share web links from other apps into your Flipboard magazines.
  • Display a refresh option when new stories are available in the section you’re reading.
  • Fixes issue where magazines do not show new flipped stories.
  • More bug fixes and performance improvements.

The update still doesn’t  add support for devices with 512MB RAM (we hope it gets sorted soon), however, it now allows to share web links from other apps into your  Flipboard magazine. Also, there’s a new refresh option available in the section so that new stories in that section can show up. Then, the app also gets some performance fixes.

It’s good to see Flipboard app being supported by the developers and being updated in lesser time than it took for developers to release the app after announcement.

Google News and Weather app launched on iOS

Google has just launched its News and Weather app on the Apple App Store adding further to the list of Google products available on the App Store. It seems like a part of Google’s attempt to bring back the News and Weather app into mainstream apps. Only recently the app was also updated on Android after a long while.

Features:

  • Coverage from 65,000 publications
  • Simple swipe-access to categories such as Top Stories, Technology, Sports & Weather
  • Tune your layout with any of 60 country-specific editions and personalized news sections such as ‘Hollywood’, ‘NASA’, ‘Fashion’, or anything else that catches your fancy
  • Tap any story for a deep selection of viewpoints, including in-depth articles, Opinion, and local perspectives

It seems like the app still needs some work before it can come at par with its Android counterpart. Grab Google News and Weather  for free from the App Store here.

Adobe Premiere Clip launched for iPhone and iPad

Adobe Premiere Clip launched for iPhone and iPad

Adobe has released a new app by the name of Adobe Premiere Clip on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad. Premiere Clip is a video editor and is the mobile version of Premiere Pro, Adobe’s video editing solution for desktop.

Features:

FAST, SIMPLE EDITING
Drag and drop clips and photos into the order you like, trim out the parts you don’t want, and add visual polish with color filters, transitions, slo-mo effects, and more.

AWESOME AUDIO
Great audio makes a video look better. Adobe Premiere Clip introduces Smart Volume, which evens out audio levels across clips, and Auto Mix, which dynamically balances music you add and dialogue in the clip.

ADOBE PREMIERE PRO COMPATIBILITY
Because Premiere Clip is connected to Creative Cloud, you can rough out a video no matter where you are, and then take your project further with the industry-leading professional editing tools in Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

The app allows you to do the basic stuff like trim out parts, add slow motion effects, add audio and stitch clips together. It’s not all that the desktop counterpart of the app is capable of, but then, you can’t expect to do too much on a small screen either. The good news is that whatever progress you make on Premiere Clip gets uploaded to the cloud and can be picked up on the PC version of the app, where you have more tools at your disposal.

Gmail for iOS now makes use of the extra space on your iPhone 6/ 6Plus

Gmail for iOS now makes use of the extra space on your iPhone 6/ 6Plus

While everyone’s been demanding a larger iPhone from as long as we can remember, the new ‘large screen’ phones also mean that apps that were designed for smaller screens will have to stretch on the bigger ground unless, they’re updated to make use of the extra space. Turns out, Gmail is among the first apps to do just exactly that. The app has been pushed to version 3.1415926 (no that isn’t equal to the value of π, in case you’re wondering) and brings support for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The update now shows more emails on the larger screens without having to hide other features from the screen. That’s the only change that the app brings so users with older phones shouldn’t find anything new.

MoviePro gets updated on iOS adding new recording modes on iPhone 6/ 6 Plus

MoviePro gets updated on iOS, brings new recording modes on iPhone 6/ 6 Plus

MoviePro is one of the better alternatives to the default camera app on iOS. The app has received a recent update that makes it even a better deal for users who recently picked up an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. The recent update takes the app to version 3.2 and brings support for iOS 8. It also brings several new features for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Changelog:

– iOS 8.0 compatibility & bug fixes
– Fixed crashes on iPhone 6/6 plus when selecting frame rate
– 720p 240 fps & 1080p 60 fps on iPhone 6/6+
– Fixed crash on iPad 2 when switching cameras
– Fixed black screen on startup on iOS 8
– Other bug fixes and enhancements

As the changelog indicates, the app now supports recording 720p videos on the two new members in the iPhone family at 240fps and recording 1080p at 60fps. The update also fixes random crash issue with these phones while selecting the frame rate.

MoviePro allows you to shoot 3K videos (3072 x 1728-pixels) on iPhone 5s/6 and 6 Plus at up to 120Mbps bitrate. You can manually set the bitrate, use spy mode, select audio gain levels, switch cameras while recording and do a lot more that isn’t available on the native app.

At $4.99, it’s slightly on the upper side but is still worth every penny if you need to make quality videos on your iPhone.

Facebook could allow money transfer through its Messenger app soon

Facebook could allow money transfer through its Messenger app soon

Facebook could soon be seen launching peer to peer money transfer through its Facebook Messenger app. The news comes after some alleged screenshots were leaked by a computer science student at Stanford University. In fact, the app has everything set in place to have the feature available and Facebook only needs to turn on the switch to enable transfer of funds.

From the screenshots, it appears like you’ll be able to make payments through your debit/credit cards. Although, the earlier version that was tested only accepts debit cards (not even online bank transfer), probably to reduce the cost of transaction. Once a card has been added to Messenger, one would be able to make payment using a PIN for security. The move would make Messenger a direct competitor to services like PayPal and Square Cash. It doesn’t come as a shock, since the Messenger department at Facebook is headed by none other than former PayPal president, David Marcus. The service will be available for single users initially, but could also cover group payments in the future. Also, the transaction will be kept private and won’t be shared in the News Feed.

It isn’t known if Facebook would impose a fee on every transaction on not. Facebook has expressed in the past the intent to monetize its Messenger app and the new move could just be the first of these methods. The service is expected to be rolled out in the US initially, followed by other regions. We also expect it will be a competitor to Apple Pay.
