Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath comes to Android

oddworld stranger's wrath

After hitting iOS ten days back, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath has now landed on Android. However, instead of the Play Store, the game is available only on the Amazon Appstore for now and is listed for $5.99. Strangely, the game was thought to be a NVIDIA SHIELD exclusive till a while ago and it’s not known what prompted the developers to change their mind.

Features:

* Explore living towns, lush forests, and massive industrial facilities
* Seamlessly transition between first-person shooter and third-person platfomer
* Scour your surroundings for live ammo
* Work with a range of strategies to surprise, stun, lure, blast and bag devious outlaws
* Meet incredibly odd, funny and smack-talking townsfolk, enemies and natives
* Fight dozens of varied bosses with outlandish arsenals and outrageous names

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath tells the story of a bounty hunter Stranger who is tasked with capturing outlaws, collecting bounties, and earning moolah in the dusty, undeveloped wastelands of Western Mudos. He’s got nothing but his crossbow that fires insects and mammals called as “live” ammunition. The game was originally released exclusively for Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console back in 2005.

The game has pretty high requirements by Android standards, requiring at least a 1.2 GHz dual core CPU, 1 GB RAM with Adreno 220, Tegra 3, ARM Mali 400-MP, SGX 543MP, Intel Baytrail or Vivante GC1000 GPU. You can grab it from the Amazon Appstore or the Amazon app from the link below.

Uber banned in New Delhi post sexual assault case involving one of its drivers

uber

Uber has been banned in the Indian capital city of New Delhi with immediate effect after one of its drivers was involved in a rape case with a female passenger. The incident has brought to light the flaky process through which Uber hires its drivers in India. Apparently, the company did not even do a background check on its drivers, putting passenger safety at risk. This brought more criticism to the company, since the driver in question was already arrested in another similar case in 2011. He in now in custody of Delhi police.

According to local authorities, the company misled customers by using vehicles that did not even have permits to run such a service in the city. The company has already issued a statement regarding its full cooperation with Delhi police to bring the perpetrator to justice, however, it doesn’t seem like the company cabs will be getting back on the road anytime soon (or perhaps, ever). Authorities will also scrutinize other services running in the city using similar model.

Uber has been involved in controversies across the globe, but this one will be hard for the company to come out of.

Version 5 of the Lumia Camera app caught in action

Version 5 of the Lumia Camera app caught in action

We do not argue that Microsoft (formerly Nokia) has one of the best camera modules on its smartphones in the industry. However, there’s a lot to be done on the software front, since a lot of features enjoyed by users on Android and iOS are missing from the camera experience on Windows Phone.

Microsoft plans to address these shortcomings with the upcoming Denim update, which will bring a new Camera app to the platform. Now, a new video from Malaysia shows version 5 of the Lumia Camera app running on the Lumia 830. The video shows two new features on the app – a new HDR mode and a faster boot time for the rear camera.

Along with these changes, the new Lumia Camera app is set to bring 4K recording (to select models), new burst mode, ability to extract 8MP stills from 4K video and improved algorithms. The update will also bring improvements to the Glance Screen, Cortana and more.

Denim update is expected to hit Windows Phone devices in the coming weeks.

Foursquare for iPad coming soon

Foursquare for iPad coming soon

It seems like Foursquare will finally launch an app tailored for the iPad soon. It’s been over four years since the talks about the company entering the iPad domain started making rounds after competitor Gowalla (now acquired by Facebook) released an iPad version of its app. But it seems like the move to create a bigger screen version of the app on iOS only started once Foursquare spit into Swarm and the original title.

Since the check-ins are now handles by Swam (which is unlikely to get an iPad version, as people rarely use the device for sign-ins), it makes sense for Foursquare to have an iPad version of the app. Speaking with Mashable, Steven Rosenblatt, the chief revenue officer for Foursquare, said the idea behind the app “was to give people sitting on their couches a way to plan restaurants to visit and future travel.”

The iPad version would likely be coming through an update to the original app on the App Store in the next few weeks. Let’s just keep using our iPhone till then.

YouTube updated on Android with Material Design

youtube android

Surprisingly, one of Google’s most popular apps is among the last ones to receive the Material Design. We’re talking about YouTube of course, which has been updated to version 6.0.11. The update brings all the things associated with Material Design like a full-height material nav drawer, circular avatars, the standard red color of YouTube in the taller tabbed toolbar and even a new launcher icon.

Besides the visual changes, a few things have been moved around as well. Safe Search now lives within your General settings, and the old Search category has been renamed Privacy. You can also clear your watch history with a single tap in Privacy section. The app has also been given more powerful and advanced search filters to make search more accurate.

The update is still rolling out, so it might be possible that it hasn’t reached all corners of the world just yet. You can grab the APK from the source link if you’re the impatient types.

Tomb Raider 2 lands on iOS for $1.99

tomb raider 2 ios

Shortly after discounting Tomb Raider 1 on iOS, the developers have released the sequel to the game on the App Store that is simply known as Tomb Raider 2. Developed by Square Enix the game is a remake of the original title of the same name launched on PC and Play Station back in 1997.

Features:

•Explore GRAND NEW LOCATIONS from Tibet, China to Venice, Italy!
•ARM YOURSELF with automatic pistols, grenade launcher, M16 rifle and more!
•Over 50 UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENTS to unlock!
•KILL OR BE KILLED by deadly Warrior Monks, Yetis and more!
•Comes complete with “THE GOLDEN MASK” expansion!
•Take CONTROL OF VEHICLES such as motorboats and quad bikes!

Given the game is a remake of a 90’s game, it is understandable that Tomb Raider 2 doesn’t have cutting edge graphics or controls, even by current smartphone standards. You’ll still find some of the glitches that plagued games in the last decade of the previous century. Still, for an asking price of $1.99, it’s not terribly expensive, especially for die hard fans of the series. And no, the game is not bad by any standards and still manages to offer an element of challenge for the players after all these years.

Grab it from the store link below. Also, there’s no hint of an Android port for now.

Google Play Store updated to v5.1.11 with a new My Account page

After completing the transition of its apps to Material Design, Google seems to be busy adding new features to them. The company has pushed a new update for its Play Store on Android taking it to version 5.1.11.

The update adds a new ‘My Account’ page to the Store. The page shows a summary of all your purchases along with the options to tweak payment methods (credit/debit card details), add PayPal as a payment option, purchase Google Play Credit or redeem gift cards.

The update also brings some visual changes as well. First, there’s a new full-height navigation drawer. Then, Android 5.0 users should get real-time shadow rendering for cards.

The update should roll out in the coming days. However, eager users can head over to the source link and manually sideload the APK on their device.

VLC beta available for Windows Phone users who registered

vlc windows phone

If you’re among those who are eagerly awaiting the launch of VLC on Windows Phone and signed up for the beta app on the platform, your waiting days are over.

Registered users can now download VLC for Windows Phone. Of course, it’s not the final version of the app and the team is just looking for early beta testers to iron out bugs before it can push the app for the masses. Those of you who missed out signing up for the program will have no choice but to wait out, since the company isn’t signing up any more testers for now and non registered users cannot download the beta version of the app.

It seems like it shouldn’t be long before we have the final app available in the Windows Phone Store now. Registered users can grab the app from the link below.
