The app can be expected to hit the platform sometime later this year. Office for Android will be second such endeavor from the company, creating an Office app designed specifically for tablets. It is noteworthy that the company hasn’t still released a Windows 8 touch optimized version of the same and is only expect to roll it out sometime in 2015.
Currently, the company is working on a private beta test for the Office on Android and is accepting participants through a special pre-release program. While Office has been available on Android for an year now, it’s been designed around smartphones and isn’t all that feature rich. Keeping the best version to Windows really hasn’t helped the sales of Windows based tablets, which are still dismal compared to Android ones. However, bringing Office to Android could help the company rake in hefty revenues, given the large Android user base.
