Skype on Windows Phone to support voice commands

Now that Windows Phone 8.1 has been announced, it’s time that apps on the platform take advantage of the new features. The first in line will be Microsoft’s own Skype app. An incoming update for the app will bring support for Cortana voice commands.

For instance, you’ll just have to nicely ask Cortana to Skype one of your contacts and it will open up the app for you and make the call, without you having to move a finger.

We’re expecting more features when the update arrives, but this is all Joe Belfiore had to reveal for now. They’ll need to make the app better, since it’s got some stiff competition now. As for Cortana support, Twitter and Facebook will be the other two apps taking advantage of it at launch. You can get Skype on your Windows Phone here. The update however, should come out once Windows Phone 8.1 is out on devices.
